Zero Client tera2 4.8 Firmware - Black screen

Hello,

I have an issue with some of my Dell WYSE P25 Zero Client which are on 4.8 firmware.

The issue is that we get black screen while the mouse cursor is still there in the middle. We can move the mouse cursor but after 1 second the mouse cursor will move back to the middle of the screen. We get those black screens when we are on website that have a lot of pictures, HD pictures, google maps or even wallpapers on the desktop. Sometimes I try to reproduce the issue on my WYSE but it isn't coming. It is really random.

I have already read the "Teradici Network Checklist" and "VMware-View-5-PCoIP-Network-Optimization-Guide". I did already everything what I have learned from those docs. I still get those Black screen.

I have attached the logs from the WYSE where I could sometimes reproduce the Black screen with Video logs enabled on the WYSE.

Here is one of the lines on the logs that I see:

This keeps repeating in the logs.

Can anyone help please? Thanks in advance.

Hi

I am struggling to line up the time in the logs and the VM. What time zone is the VM located in?

What I can see in the logs is a lot of loss being reported. The loss does spike in some locations. When too much loss occurs PCoIP must reset the encoder. When the PCoIP encoder is reset the screen on the zero client will go black momentarily. If the network conditions are still experiencing a lot of loss when this happens then the screen will remain black until PCoIP successfully transmits a frame of data.

The latency being reported does seem to increase a lot when the packet loss occurs. Are you on a LAN or WAN? I would have said WAN but there are some round trip averages as lot as 1-2 ms but a lot are in the 20-30 ms range with latency spiking up to 150-200 ms.

I would suggest you have a look at the Network checklist for PCoIP protocol LAN and WAN deployments (15134-957)

Thanks,

Justin

Hello,

The time zone is GMT+1. My Zero clients are all on LAN and can access the internet, of course behind a Firewall.

So if I understand correctly, the issue with black screen is because I have heavy traffic on my Network at certain time of the day? I see, I did already check that list and tried all of the checks already it helped of course, but I still get the black screens sometimes. I understand now better why we have those black screen. Thank you so much for explaining, I was always trying to understand why I get black screen, now I understand.

Do you know any way how to find out why and when those latency spikes comes? I have tried many Networking monitoring tools but none helps me to find out from where the latency spikes come from. The only thing that I didn't try yet is setting up a QoS.

I will keep looking then to find out from where those latency spikes come from and why.
